Thursday the 22nd I was happy to have attended the premier of Curse. A film by Artskills Studios whose main message is Autism and the challenges faced by those in this condition. The film gives us some sort of understanding of what it really means to be autistic.
Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by impaired social interaction, verbal and non-verbal communication, and restricted and repetitive behavior. Parents usually notice signs in the first two years of their child’s life. These signs often develop gradually, though some children with autism reach their developmental milestones at a normal pace and then regress.
Curse is a story of a young girl who is born with Autism she is the main reason her father is violent towards the family, it is a great story you should watch out for its next screening. The Kenyan actors/ friends gave the story a facelift sending the message right home.
The story took me back in time to when my sister and I would go deliver my mum’s merchandise to one of her clients who had a daughter Eunice. Coincidentally, yes we share the same name Eunice is autistic, very friendly, and always ready to play. We never knew what her condition was, we only knew she was different. After years now we know. I don’t know how she is right now since they relocated to a different town, I will reach out.
Organizations such as the African Organization For Families and Autism Society of Kenya were present for the red carpet event. I was humbled to be part of the many Kenyans that support autism awareness.
It was an awesome event and I was happy to reconnect with other art enthusiasts. #ISupportAutismAwarness .
