It was with pleasure honoring your request to do another travel blog. This was after the Hedja 2016 post. Kevin Orato suggested I give you more, well who am I not to? Whatever you wish for, I will treat it as a command and do it straight away.
While growing up, I wasn’t more of a traveller; People like me back home, are referred to as Born tao <born and raised in the city> But as I grew older then traveling started making a little sense. Easter popped out and everyone was out and about boiling, frying, and collecting eggs haha! I took #EveningWalkWithEuniceAyuma to Trans Nzoia County the land of fertile soil.
I have family down there so hotel bookings and reservations were not part of my hustle. Trust me the turn of events, lessons, and experiences was one of a lifetime, I might not be able to write everything down but some will be leaking in my coming posts. What caught my attention is the lifestyle practiced by the people.
Despite having tapped water, I found it interesting to fetch water down the stream, in this case, River Nzoia. In each and every stream, chlorine dispensers are installed. So whichever source you want your water from, it is clean and safe for consumption. Wait, how come I didn’t get my color faded? The clean water didn’t toa tint?
The long walks to the market and long stories of our people and their culture made the distance shorter, with so many common challenges everyone faces in the hustle, I came to the conclusion that whether you are from the village or the city, people’s challenges are intertwined in one way or the other.
#EveningWalkWithEuniceAyuma was born out of my love for watching films; trust me I wasn’t going to leave Kitale without watching one or two films in the cinema halls. Effortless, I managed to fish out one God-sent cinema hall. With as little as Ksh40, I had access to the hall. To my surprise, while you enjoy “all you can eat” back in the city, this cinema hall offers the same to film junkies like me, for that kidogo (small) cash you have the right to watch all you can until you step out, great deal right? From the licenses hung on the walls, it was evident that owners are legally carrying out their businesses. Come to think of it, this is truly a ready audience for Kenyan Filmmakers to showcase their work in different towns.
After the crazy hustle in Kitale town, it was time to ride home; it was a smooth ride until we could not move at all, how on earth do you have traffic on a highway? How? Apparently, every city dweller had traveled and now we were all squeezing our humble selves back into this big city. A journey that takes 9 hours took us 22 hours that’s an entire rainy day oops! And night.
While in all this Wahala! <Mess> It dawned on me that east or west, Mother Nature gives everyone an equal opportunity to learn, grow, be entertained, and mingle!
Until next time, watch this short clip on social media. The Journey #EveningWalkWithEuniceAyuma continues.
