SUBSISTING ONLINE THE PROPER WAY.
1st May 2017

If I were ever stranded on a desert Island there would be three things I’d need; food, (*wink*) shelter, and a bunch of locally made content. I never hesitate to watch Kenyan films every time I get an opportunity to. This time, this film reminded me of my first time in school, yeah…

KatiKati a  Mbithi Masya film, written by Mugambi Nthiga opened the inaugural NBO Film Festival on Thursday the 20th of January 2017, the perfect way to start my year. You want to leave this world and end in paradise right? Imagine if you don’t get what you expected.  Shot in one location, yes one location, Katikati simply tells the story of how life is, in Purgatory(Purgatory is a middle realm between Heaven and Hell or a level beneath Hell. In most instances, Purgatory is simply seen as a type of limbo perhaps suspended between the upper and lower realms of Heaven and Hell, in other words, “KATIKATI” It is an amazing story executed in a way that no one has ever tried applause!!

A well-jelled mature cast including Nyokabi Gethaiga, Elsaphan Njora, Brian Ogolla, and Paul Ogolla just to mention a few, graced the big screen. Please hold me, their acting sweeps me off my chair. The Stunts all thanks to the stunt director Lwanda Jawar, visual, mechanical, and sound effect play a huge role in adding awesomeness to the film, clearly half of the storytelling ability is sound. The language used is one most Kenyans would relate to. This is a film you watch, find yourself laughing, sad, and at some time on the edge of your seat I kid you not. The choir got me laughing out loud as the last scene left me wanting more, someone give me more of Katikati.

The premiere event was graced by the crème de la crème of the film/entertainment industry. This provided an amazing environment for networking and meeting old friends. Well, the festival director played a huge role in providing a platform for filmmakers to showcase their amazing work as cinema-goers like me get to enjoy more local content at our disposal. It is now showing in Nairobi, Kisumu and soon to grace screens in Mombasa. This, you should watch!!
